Monday, April 26, 2004 -- Day 26

After hearing the alarm I got out of bed, brushed my teeth, washed my face and got ready to go to the gym. As I put on my watch I noticed that it was only 1:30 in the morning and not 4:30. So the only thing to do was to go back to bed until the alarm went off again. I made my way to the gym and did 30 minutes of cardio and 50 minutes resistance training on my Chest. I came home and got ready for a full day of work at the office.

Tuesday, April 27, 2004 -- Day 27

I got up this morning and did 30 minutes of cardio. I had a radio interview this morning and a full day of work ahead of me so I put off my resistance training until the evening. After the interview I headed to McDonald’s for my first meal. As I enter my 27th day I realize that my strength or my energy has not diminished while losing six pounds of body fat during the process.

  • Meal #107 – 0739 hrs: Hotcakes & Sausage [780 cal., 15 g. protein, 104 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Sausage McGriddle [420 cal., 11 g. protein, 42 g. carbs, 23 g. total fat], Scrambled Eggs [160 cal., 13 g. protein, 1 g. carbs, 11 g. total fat] and a Large Black Coffee [0 Cal.].
  • Meal #108 – 1130 hrs: Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat], Small French Fries [210 cal., 3 g. protein, 26 g. carbs, 10 g. total fat], 2 Orders of Chicken McNuggets (6 piece) [620 cal., 30 g. protein, 36 g. carbs, 40 g. total fat],
  • Meal #109 – 1630 hrs: 2 Orders of Chicken McNuggets (6 piece) [620 cal., 30 g. protein, 36 g. carbs, 40 g. total fat], Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken [210 cal., 26 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 7 g. total fat] and a 2 Baked Apple Pie’s [520 cal., 6 g. protein, 68 g. carbs, 26 g. total fat].
  • Meal #110 – 2053 hrs: Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat] and a Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken [210 cal., 26 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 7 g. total fat].

Additional Comments: I was so busy with work that I never made it back to the gym for my resistance training. Okay, I’ve been asked so much lately “what will your first meal be after eating 30 day’s of McDonald’s?” And after giving it some thought I’m going to have my first meal on Saturday morning with some friends at, you may not have guessed it, McDonald’s. There won’t be any cameras. I won’t have to make sure that the receipt is logged or a witness is there to make sure that I’ve eaten everything. I’ll just be enjoying a meal with friends. Do you think they could serve me a mimosa with my Hot Cakes & Sausage and McGriddle Sandwich?

Wednesday, April 28, 2004 -- Day 28

After not being able to get my resistance training in yesterday I knew my workout would be more intense today. After 20 minutes on the Life Cycle Eric showed up to train Shoulders with me. We started out on the shoulder press where I was able to go beyond the normal weight that I lift. Maybe the day of rest helped, but what a feeling. We finished an intense Shoulder workout followed by Triceps in just under an hour. I had an appointment at 7:30 so my first meal was going to have to be a little later than usual. After my meeting, and now quite hungry, I headed for McDonald’s to devour some food.

  • Meal #111 – 0828 hrs: Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddle [550 cal., 20 g. protein, 43 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Sausage McGriddle [420 cal., 11 g. protein, 42 g. carbs, 23 g. total fat], Scrambled Eggs [160 cal., 13 g. protein, 1 g. carbs, 11 g. total fat] and a Large Black Coffee [0 Cal.].

The morning became very exciting as I was contacted by not one but two major networks interested in covering The McDonald’s Diet in direct response to Morgan Spurlock’s Supersize Me film. This media would be incredible because I think the education for health and fitness would be distributed to a larger audience. I’ll keep you posted as the events unfold.

  • Meal #112 – 1152 hrs: Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat], Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken [210 cal., 26 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 7 g. total fat], Snack Size Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait [160 cal., 4 g. protein, 30 g. carbs, 2 g. total fat], Chocolate Chip Cookie (1) [170 cal., 2 g. protein, 23 g. carbs, 9 g. total fat], Oatmeal Raisin Cookie (1) [150 cal., 2 g. protein, 23 g. carbs, 6 g. total fat], Sugar Cookie (1) [140 cal., 2 g. protein, 20 g. carbs, 6 g. total fat]

I received an email at Truth In Fitness from a gentleman who had indicated that I had not partaken of a Shamrock Shake yet. So I replied and told him that I would have one today in order to fulfill my requirements not knowing the difficulties that lay ahead.

I had a radio interview with another radio station in Ireland. They are not happy about the pending Fat Tax. (I can’t blame them.)

  • Meal #113 – 1643 hrs: McChicken Sandwich [430 cal., 14 g. protein, 41 g. carbs, 23 g. total fat], Bacon Ranch Salad with Grilled Chicken [270 cal., 28 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 13 g. total fat] and 2 Baked Apple Pie’s [520 cal., 6 g. protein, 68 g. carbs, 26 g. total fat].
  • Meal #114 – 2041 hrs: Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat], McChicken Sandwich [430 cal., 14 g. protein, 41 g. carbs, 23 g. total fat], Side Salad [15 cal., 1 g. protein, 3 g. carbs, 0 g. total fat].

To my surprise the McDonald’s I went to no longer had Shamrock Shakes so I bought my food and went home to have it recorded and logged. However, having made a promise, I had to be sure that there were no Shamrock Shakes available near me. So I hopped in my car and drove to a few McDonald’s in the surrounding area. Not finding any Shamrock Shakes I got on my cell phone and called a few others. Alas, the McDonald’s in Newport Beach still carried Shamrock Shakes so I drove over there lickety-split and got myself one.

Meal #114.1 – 2127 hrs: Shamrock Shake (16 oz) [580 cal., 15 g. protein, 94 g. carbs, 17 g. total fat]

Thursday, April 29, 2004 -- Day 29

One more day to go! I was up and to the gym for 20 minutes of cardio work and back to the house by 6:10 for another radio interview. I then jumped on my computer to get some work done for my paying job. After completing several tasks I linked on to read the latest Truth In Fitness emails where I ended up being the not so proud recipient of a virus. I immediately shut down my computer knowing that there wasn’t that much I could do about the virus I headed off for McDonald’s where I could get my first meal of the day.

  • Meal #115 – 0716 hrs: Hotcakes & Sausage [780 cal., 15 g. protein, 104 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Sausage McGriddle [420 cal., 11 g. protein, 42 g. carbs, 23 g. total fat], Egg McMuffin [300 cal., 18 g. protein, 29 g. carbs, 12 g. total fat] and a Large Black Coffee [0 Cal.].

After finishing my first meal I contacted the Director of Technology, John K., at my office building. He applied his extraordinary talents and knowledge regarding computers in order to resolve the dilemma that some faceless, cowardly, pathetic, lower than life individual, and any other degrading words that I could use for somebody that would impose a computer virus on any system, individual imposed. Three and a half hours later after John worked his magic (I’m definitely not a techie) and my computer was up and running well again thereby allowing me to head off to McDonald’s for my next meal.

  • Meal #116 – 1316 hrs: McChicken Sandwich [430 cal., 14 g. protein, 41 g. carbs, 23 g. total fat], Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat], Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken [210 cal., 26 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 7 g. total fat] and a Small Diet Coke.

I met Eric at the gym to get in a quick but intense leg workout that only lasted 40 minutes.

  • Meal #117 – 1907 hrs: Chicken McNuggets (6 piece) [310 cal., 15 g. protein, 18 g. carbs, 20 g. total fat], Small French Fries [210 cal., 3 g. protein, 26 g. carbs, 10 g. total fat], Bacon Ranch Salad with Grilled Chicken [270 cal., 28 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 13 g. total fat].
  • Meal #118 – 2154 hrs: Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat].

Additional Comments: I can’t believe tomorrow is Day 30 already.

Friday, April 30, 2004 -- Day 30

Day 30 and I was up earlier than normal and actually at the gym by 5 am to start my cardio. Thirty minutes later Eric showed up to engage in an extreme chest workout that lasted a little under one hour. Afterwards I had to head home before my first meal for a radio interview regarding my last day on McDonald’s.

• Meal #119 – 0809 hrs: Hotcakes & Sausage [780 cal., 15 g. protein, 104 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddle [550 cal., 20 g. protein, 43 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Scrambled Eggs [160 cal., 13 g. protein, 1 g. carbs, 11 g. total fat] and a Large Black Coffee [0 Cal.].

I was contacted by Brian from The Orange County Register for an article that would be in Saturday’s paper regarding my last day on McDonald’s. At the end of the telephone interview we made arrangements for his photographer to take photos of me at a McDonald’s in Costa Mesa. During the interview Brian asked me when I would have the results of my last blood test. I informed him that I would be having my blood tested on Monday morning and the results should be in Wednesday or Thursday. After hanging up with Brian, I started thinking that the integrity of the project could be jeopardized by waiting two days before having my blood test. I immediately got on the phone to my doctors office and spoke with the head nurse where she was kind enough to make arrangements for me to come in and get my weight and blood pressure taken and to get the paperwork in order to have my blood test taken Saturday morning.

• Meal #120 – 1251 hrs: Filet-O-Fish [470 cal., 15 g. protein, 45 g. carbs, 26 g. total fat], California Cobb Salad with Grilled Chicken [280 cal., 30 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 14 g. total fat], Grilled Chicken Patty Ala Carte [100 cal., 23 g. protein, 0 g. carbs, 1.5 g. total fat].

I showed up at the doctors office where my official weight was 214 pounds and my blood pressure had actually improved from 111/78 to 121/81, optimal is 120/80. Who would have thought? After leaving the doctors office I immediately went to pick up the PA system for the next day’s seminar. After completing that task I headed over to McDonald’s for what would be my last meal and to meet the photographer from The Orange County Register. After this meal in order to have my blood taken in the morning I would have to fast for a minimum of twelve hours.

Meal #121 – 1630 hrs: Big Mac [590 cal., 24 g. protein, 47 g. carbs, 34 g. total fat], Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat] , Chicken McNuggets (6 piece) [310 cal., 15 g. protein, 18 g. carbs, 20 g. total fat], Snack Size Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait [160 cal., 4 g. protein, 30 g. carbs, 2 g. total fat] and a Medium Diet Coke.

Additional Comments: I want to keep the integrity of the project to as high a level as possible, so until I receive the results from my blood test I will continue to eat McDonald’s and nothing but McDonald’s in case something were to hinder the test. I haven’t come this far to have the project’s integrity questioned because of an accidental mix-up or error.

I hope you will continue to check the site out in that we will be posting more information regarding health & fitness and other projects that are already in the works. I want to thank everyone that has been keeping up on the site and all those that have been supporting my efforts. I feel honored and privileged to have you take time out of your busy day to keep up with what’s going on with this most important issue. We will also be posting information from Saturday’s seminar.
