Friday, April 16, 2004 -- Day 16

I’m finding it interesting that my normal routine is now consisting of cardio in the morning and resistance training in the evening. So, I rolled out of bed a little later than normal, 5:30 am, and went to the gym to get in 30 minutes of cardio on the usual Life Cycle. Wow! This is turning into a plug for Life Fitness. However, just to remind everyone that I have no ties with any business, corporation or other individuals. This entire project is being funded out of my personal savings account.

  • Meal #63 – 0644 hrs: Hotcakes & Sausage [780 cal., 15 g. protein, 104 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Sausage Biscuit [410 cal., 10 g. protein, 30 g. carbs, 28 g. total fat], Scrambled Eggs [160 cal., 13 g. protein, 1 g. carbs, 11 g. total fat] and a Large Black Coffee [0 Cal.].

I met up with my friend Eric to work out and coach him with his continued fat loss. This was one of my shorter workouts. I only spent 40 minutes on my Chest workout. Eric will be hosting the May 1st Seminar at Triangle Square in Costa Mesa. The flyer for this event should be up on the website sometime this weekend. You can see a before and after picture of him there.

Additional Comments: Brian Martinez from the Orange County Register contacted me for a an update on the project which the Register would be running on Saturday, April 17th.

I’ve been receiving a lot of comments during the project on how I’m not the “typical American”. They’re right! I’m not the typical American, the typical American is out of shape, overweight and/or obese. Let’s start to raise our standards. The typical American does consume close to the amount of calories that I have been consuming during this project. And if I wasn’t exercisig I would have already gained approximately 15+ pounds of fat on my body. The typical American not only needs but MUST exercise and understand their caloric needs per day in order to stop the accelerating rate of obesity in America. Let’s stop making excuses and start making some changes.

Tuesday, April 20, 2004 -- Day 20

It’s Vegas Day! I got up at my regular time, however instead of making my way to the gym we loaded up the car and began the drive to the bright light city to set my soul on fire! I got a little carried away with the Elvis impersonation. We met up with the camera crew and continued on towards Vegas. Traffic was light and after stopping at two McDonald’s on the way we arrived at the Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino in the early afternoon.

  • Meal #79 – 0718 hrs: Hotcakes & Sausage [780 cal., 15 g. protein, 104 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Bacon, Egg & Cheese McGriddle [450 cal., 19 g. protein, 43 g. carbs, 23 g. total fat], Scrambled Eggs (2 orders) [320 cal., 26 g. protein, 2 g. carbs, 22 g. total fat] and a small black coffee [0 Cal.].
  • Meal #80 – 1055 hrs: Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat], Whole Wheat Grilled Chicken Sandwich [320 cal., 25 g. protein, 42 g. carbs, 6 g. total fat], Baked Apple Pie’s (2) [520 cal., 6 g. protein, 68 g. carbs, 26 g. total fat] and a Small Diet Coke.

After settling into the hotel I eventually made my way down through the casino to the food court where my McDonald’s for the next few day’s was beckoning me in.

  • Meal #81 – 1501 hrs: Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat], Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken [210 cal., 26 g. protein, 11 g. carbs, 7 g. total fat], Snack Size Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait [160 cal., 4 g. protein, 30 g. carbs, 2 g. total fat] and a Small Diet Coke.

After finishing my meal I made my way to the MGM Grand where the ETA Conference was holding a meet and greet. Expecting to only be there for a half hour I wound up staying several hours which means I missed my next meal. I finally got back to my hotel and my newest friends at the McDonald’s inside the Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino for my much needed last meal of the day.

  • Meal #82 – 2007 hrs: Chicken McNuggets (10 piece) [510 cal., 25 g. protein, 30 g. carbs, 33 g. total fat], Double Cheeseburger [480 cal., 25 g. protein, 37 g. carbs, 27 g. total fat and a Diet Coke.

Additional Comments: Because of the trip and the ETA Conference I wasn’t able to get to a gym for my daily workout however, I will find the nearest one tomorrow. There are times when you are on vacation or on a business trip that you may not be able to make it to the gym for your regular exercise routine. But just as you shouldn’t make over eating a regular habit you should not make skipping your workout’s a regular habit. Everything should be done in moderation. Enjoy life!
